Orshof is a Kempen farmhouse, situated on the edge
of the nature reserve of Solterheide (in the Belgian province of Limburg).
In 1974 Ivo Van Orshoven en Iselle Dreesen bought the old farmhouse on
4 hectares of agricultural land and called the premises ‘Orshof’.
From 1980 to 1983 the buildings were thoroughly restored with the help of Luc Dreesen, Iselle’s brother, who is an architect. Part of it was designed for dwelling, the rest of it being converted into a seminar centre with lodging facilities.
After the restoring and rebuilding work had been done, the gardens were laid out, displaying various garden compartments and flowerbeds, the colours of which mostly match the interior, a lot of boxwood, a swimming pond, an orchard, a section showing leaves rich in contrast, a vegetable garden etc.
It was Elisabeth de Lestrieux who converted Ivo’s and Iselle’s ideas into a green design.
As the facilities became insufficient, two new buildings were raised in 1988, which were linked by glass winter gardens. Moreover a second swimming pond was sunk, a large terrace was built for the guests to enjoy the green and rest, and the parking area was extended.
These additions cleared the way for supplementary activities: Orshof Decor nv (public limited company) was established, focusing on interior design for house and winter garden, and Orshof bvba (company with limited liability), containing the seminar centre, hotel, restaurant and hotel.
These new activities have been developed by Frank, Katrien and Mick Van Orshoven, Ivo and Iselle’s children.
In 2005 Ivo and Iselle decided to split up. Ivo moved out, taking with him the course centre business ‘Instituut Orshof’. For more information about the ‘Instituut Orshof’’ click here.
Iselle is still living at Orshof. In the morning and in the evening she is your hostess. By day you can mostly find her in the Orshof Decor shop at the village of Maasmechelen Village.
The further development of Orshof has been left to her children. Frank is charged with the day-to-day management at Orshof and runs the catering business. He is assisted in the bookkeeping by his wife An. Gifted with a talent for design and decoration, Katrien pursues the purchase and sale at Orshof Decor. Mick lends a helping hand where necessary and is highly engaged in his horse-breeding.
From 1974 onward Orshof has grown into a 16 ha large estate, providing a whole range of activities:
